One of the most powerful features of RSSmeme and (the old version of) ReadBurner is their ability to filter items shared in Google Reader using different criteria, such as the number of shares, tags, sources, authors or users.
However, neither RSSmeme or ReadBurner provide a simple way to combine those filters. It seems obvious that combining filters would help to obtain more relevant items and avoid information overload. For example, I would like to obtain a feed for items that have been tagged as Video from the source Boing Boing shared at least 5 times.
A rudimentary way to solve this problem is using Yahoo! Pipes. I made a pipe that combines shares, sources and tags for filtering RSSmeme feeds.
The objective of this post is to show the utility of combining filters and to encourage RSSmeme and ReadBurner to provide the service themselves.
